Our Founder

I'm Michael Roessler, and in the year 2000, I launched a small camera with a big idea: Technology should be compact, fun, and accessible. That idea became Spypen—one of Europe’s first consumer digital micro-cameras.

Spypen was more than a gadget—it was a movement. Designed for mobility, curiosity, and a new generation of creators, Spypen made it possible for people to carry their own private lens wherever they went. Whether in a school backpack or a coat pocket, it was about freedom: the freedom to capture, explore, and tell stories without limits.

In those early years, Spypen quickly became a success story. We sold across Europe, inspired by a touch of mystery, a nod to spy culture, and the playful excitement of discovery. Our 2002 winter catalog, shot in Budapest, leaned into that "Secret Agent" allure—adding cinematic drama, elegance, and a little "cold war chic." But even then, Spypen wasn’t about surveillance. It was about imagination. It was about giving people the tools to see the world differently.

During that time, I also acquired the AgfaPhoto license and revived the legendary red-dot shutter button — bringing it back to life through compact, affordable cameras like the 530s and 830s, proudly designed in Germany.

Now, over 25 years later, it time to do it again, Spypen returns. But this time, we’re not just re-releasing a gadget. We’re relaunching a tool and a movement — redesigned for a new rebellious generation raised on smartphones, and hungry for not being exploited. From "Spy" pictures to advanced non "foot print" captures. #SpyOffMode
